![]() I took a couple of shots as the sun rose, warming up even more mist and then took a little wander to see what the D’s were doing.Īs I walked across the heather, I noticed the stunning light that was giving shape to the hills behind me and rushed to get a couple of shots off. I hadn’t seen heather in full bloom before and was very pleasantly surprised at the great colour contrast it gave to the pictures. Very quickly however, the mist started to clear and some useful light started to glisten against the wet heather and vegetation. With 15 minutes to go until sunrise, we decided to make the most of it and trudged up to the hill to be greeted with a bank of mist filling the valley in front of the sun. We sat in the rain getting to know one another for ten minutes until Dav pointed out a line of light on the horizon. I began to realise that listening to a zombie armageddon audiobook on the way down probably wasn’t the best preparation for waiting in the dark on a rainy moorland, however very soon David turned up in his VW T25 followed shortly by Dav in his newly refurbished VW T25 - I was feeling a little left out of the trendy camper club but hearing about the ‘odd’ electromechanical issue that Dav and David had experienced I felt a tad better. As it was, I figured we could have a good chat if nothing else and so finished the last, dark and rainy bit of the drive and parked up at the siding near the Tor. Dav Thomas was going to meet us as well but as I was driving through Sheffield on the way in, the torrential rain had me nearly calling him to call the morning off. So last thursday, I woke up at (or rather stayed awake until) 3.00am, got my gear in the camper and set off to Higger Tor in the Peak District. Pictured here is a panoramic vista of the Dallas Divide near the town of Ridgway at the absolute peak of fall color, which carpets the foothills of these majestic peaks in rich, vibrant yellows, oranges and reds adding to this wonderful scenic view.Īfter talking to David Clapp recently, he mentioned he would be in the Peak District and asked about meeting up for a quick outing, which was quite fortuitous as I wanted an interview with David for a new project I’m working on. In 1890 the Rio Grande Southern Railroad was built over the divide from Ridgway to Telluride. A toll road was first constructed over Dallas Divide in 1880 linking the town of Dallas near Ridgway with Telluride. Colorado's Rocky Mountains posed a formidable obstacle for early explorers and pioneers. The pass is a saddle between the San Juan Mountains to the south and the Uncompahgre Plateau to the north and provides amazing vistas for the towns of Ridgeway and Telluride, among others. During the fall months, you are treated to the beautiful aspens that contrast up against this rugged range. Located in the Southwestern corner of Colorado is a high mountain pass known as the Dallas Divide, 8,983 feet at it's tallest peak. We don't have a name for it yet.any ideas? This final image ended up being just over 600MP in size, consisting of 70 individual images. This is my latest multi-row panoramic image of Colorado's Dallas Divide range "Zoomified"! You can zoom in and see all the juicy details.that mountain range is over 7 miles from where the images were taken. HERE is another shot taken a bit later in the evening. It will be on exhibit in Melbourne at The Digital Show, Melbourne Exhibition Centre at the end of next week.Ĭlick HERE for a Zoomified view of the pano. This shot has just been awarded a Gold Award and placed 6th in Nature by the 2012 EPSON International Pano Awards. The view from my house, 2 doors away, didn't allow me to get quite the wide field of view that I needed here. This vantage point allows me to shoot The Mountain's north face and have the sun at right angles. It was shot from my neighbor's house east of Auburn overlooking the Green River Valley. Some have asked where this shot was taken. As sunset approached, the stacks still remained and the colors were beginning to develop. Eventually, the stack would drift away and a new one would begin. When one was completed, it was discarded and placed on the nearest stack. Rainier but the lenticular clouds did so on this day. ![]() ![]() 5, 2008, a day that I will not soon forget.
